Born in Barcelona, Joan is an independent dance artist based in the city of Dundee, Scotland. As a dancer, he has worked for twelve years in companies across Europe, including the Ballet Carmen Roche (Madrid), the company of the Choreographic Centre of Valencia, the Ballet of the Graz Opera (Austria), Scottish Dance Theatre, Lost Dog, and the collective Dog Kennel Hill Project (UK).
 
During this time, Joan has danced in works by Hofesh Shechter, Jo Strømgren, Janet Smith, Kate Weare, Ina Christel Johannessen, Idan Cohen, Rachel Lopez de la Nieta, Victor Quijada, Sally Owen, Ben Levi, Katrín Hall, Ramon Oller, Cathy Marston, Thomas Noone, Darrel Toulon, Pascal Touzeau, Ángel Rodríguez and Gustavo Ramírez amongst others.

Joan initiated his journey as a choreographer in 2006, creating works for the choreographic platforms of the Graz Opera (Austria) and Scottish Dance Theatre, where two of his pieces were taken into the main repertory of the company. Following his interest in choreography, he obtained a masters degree with distinction at London Contemporary Dance School in 2012. He has received several commissions as a dance-maker including Thomas Noone Dance in Barcelona, and since 2014 he creates his own work as an independent artist in Scotland. His works have been presented in the UK, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan.

Joan has also an extensive experience as dance teacher and has been invited to teach at London Contemporary Dance School, Northern School of Contemporary Dance (Leeds), Dance Conservatoire of Barcelona (Institut del Teatre), Skånes Dansteater and Norrdans (Sweden). Joan has also worked as a rehearsal director for Scottish Dance Theatre, Lost Dog and Glasgow-based choreographer Caroline Bowditch.
 
Since summer 2014, Joan is Associate Artist of the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance.
